Late Out, Late In

One thing Akron seems to be missing is a strong art scene. Maybe it's because the Art Museum is closed, maybe it's because no one promotes it. Cleveland, on the other hand, has a great new system to reward employees of participating businesses who attend art events during the week. If you check out the Get Late site, the events that participants can go to range from a night at the Greatlakes Science Center to a night at the Improv to a Sum 41 concert Tower City Amphitheater.

Imagine attending a satisfying, enriching arts event, then having your boss reward your effort with time off from work.

That's the "work perk" behind Cleveland's Late Out, Late In, which encourages employees of participating businesses to patronize the city's weeknight arts scene. In return, they get to come to work two hours late the next morning. That doesn't mean they start two hours later and work two hours later; it's paid time off.

To quote Paris Hilton, "That's hot."

Kerry Clawson, staff writer for The BJ, hit the nail on the head when she said Akron needs to jump on board a program like this, that is if Akron wants to be "cool."
