Print Pains
Blah blah blah newspapers blah blah print blah blah timeliness... what? The BJ timely? When was this? Not all newspapers suffer from time-lapse problems. The 680 afternoon newspapers in this country found the pope's funeral to be perfect for their publication schedule.
Some Beacon Journal readers still pine for those days when their newspaper arrived in late afternoon, their impression being that the news was same-day and fresher. But that rarely was true. When the Beacon Journal switched to morning publication in 1987, one of the major objectives was to provide you with more timely news. After all, nearly everything in a typical afternoon newspaper comes from events that occur the previous day, forcing you to wait an extra 12 hours for that news. Umm... if you really want to be timely, how about turning on CNN or surfing to Drudge? Then you lose that little half day gap.
