Follow the Buck

The new site AkronWatch.org is out in cyberspace trying to dog the city of Akron for excessive spending on econimic development.

[Larry L. Parker] will spend $120,000 over the next dozen months bird-dogging the city of Akron's spending habits with a new Web site called AkronWatch.org that draws on thousands of public records about the city's development deals that he's amassed over two decades.

The site says the city has "squandered millions of taxpayer dollars on so-called economic development projects over the last 25 years."

It seems like a duel-edged sword to me. I think it is important to know where our tax dollars are going and this site is definitely doing that. But at the same time it is only publicizing failed ventures. What about all that the city's done to improve itself? Why not report on those too? If is doesn't this site will be the Fox News of Akron, not so "Fair and Balanced."
