5.12.2005A (Heavy) Piece of HistoryOh, giant rotating BJ sign... I'm going to miss you. After nearly 40 years on the downtown landscape, the Beacon Journal is replacing their clock tower and showing the 12-foot-tall plastic BJ letters the door.It will be replaced by a concrete tower with a stationary time/temperature display on four sides and a wraparound message board below.I always wanted to live in a city with one of those streaming-news-on-a-building things. You know like New York has had for a bazillion years. Better late than never, right Akron? But the even better news? You could own the giant BJ sign if you're the first one to show up with a truck big enough to haul away the 2 1/2 ton fixture. That would be the ultimate yard ornament, don't you think? Please, whoever gets it... send me a picture of what you did with the big red BJ so I know it's happy in it's new home. Pretty please.
