I feel bad for Memorial Day. I've always seen it as the black sheep... er... white shoe sheep of the patriot holiday triumvirate. Labor Day gets to serve as an end of summer celebration with big parades and barbecues with actual fresh produce. The Fourth of July is rivaled only by the Chinese New Year in its ability to give us a reason to shoot off mass amount of fireworks.

But Memorial Day just lets us know when it's okay to pull out white purses and shoes. You try to have a barbecue, but nothing's fresh. Some communities are having parades, but they're never all that big and the free candy count is often far too low. And fireworks on Memorial Day? Well, if anyone has any, it's usually more like a single firework. At least I get the day off from work.
