5.08.2005Voting TimeJust as a reminder, everyone out there in RubberBuzz-land needs to go to the BJ's site and vote for a phrase to describe Akron's image. Currently, "Renaissance City" is winning. You can read what I have to say about that below. Here's a list of the nominated phrases and my thoughts on each...1. Connected - No we're not. Where's the city-wide free wireless? Then we'll be connected. 2. Renaissance City - Really? A Renaissance City implies great art, great food, and music. It also encompasses creative thinking and a return to enlightened thinking. We have all those things but we're not the best at these. I think it gives the wrong impression. Plus the term "Renaissance" is over used. Everyone wants to be a "Renaissance City," we're not everyone; we're Akron. We need to stand out in the crowd. 3. Resilient - We can survive the mass exodus of tire companies, we can survive the destruction of the original Northside District, we can survive snow in May. 4. Just Right - Obviously if have to rebrand the city its not "Just Right" 5. Akron: It satisfies - Satisfies = satisfactory. We want great, not average. 6. Akron: It's transforming - Autobots, Transform! 7. Undiscovered - Hmmm... Kinda good. There's a bunch in Akron that most non-Akronites and even most Akronites have yet to discover about our fair city. 8. Akron is opportunity - True, but everywhere is opportunity. It doesn't make Akron stand out. 9. Akcellent - Snarky and fun. It got my vote. 10. Reinvented - We're getting there, we're not there yet. Whether you agree with me or not, go to Ohio.com and cast your vote. The BJ :: How would you describe Akron's image? (joe :: Voting Time) |
