5.14.2005Wassup in NE Ohio? Nothing in Akron.I'm more then a little perturbed by The BJ's new column, "Wassup in NE Ohio?" (Does anyone really say "Wassup?" anymore? I think a title change might be order.) If you've read the article, the answer to their question seems to be "Abso-fucking-lutely nothing in Akron. You should go to Cleveland." I have read two of the articles, and between the two, there appeared to be about 3 Akron events. The latest edition boasts 7 things to do... in Cleveland. Now I'm not saying that these events suck and shouldn't be reported, in fact there are usually some kick-ass art events being pointed out, but my point is they're not here in Akron. The BJ, like a lot of us Akronites, has gotten caught up in cool... err sorry, "Renaissance City" Akron, but seems to be neglecting the local guy when it come to promoting events that would make us more renaissance-y. That seems a little contradictory to me. The idea for the column in good (minus the horrible name), but if you're an Akron newspaper, shouldn't you post Akron events? Or is this model a little too radical? If you're a neglected local, submit your events to us. We'll post your event so long as it is in Akron and doesn't offend us... too much. Submit your events here. The BJ :: Wassup in NE Ohio? (joe :: Wassup in NE Ohio? Nothing in Akron.) |
