Downtown Veggies: Update

Remember when we said Akron was getting a new farmer's market? Well, we didn't lie about it; we just didn't know it would take this long to get. But now it's on the horizon.

Downtown Akron's new farmers market will open July 14.

The market will run from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays until mid-October at the Erie Freight House on Broadway at East Exchange Street.

About 25 to 30 vendors are scheduled to sell fresh produce, baked goods and coffee, but the number could grow because the market is still recruiting sellers, said manager Sharon Halkovics.

It's no West Side Market, but I'll take it.
