And Another Thing!

It's just a great news day for Akron... now our practically-still-new marathon has been included in a new book, From Fairbanks to Boston -- 50 Great U.S. Marathons.

The Akron marathon made the prestigious list -- compiled via a variety of sources -- in large part for what was cited as exceptional organization and top course quality.

``It is clear that the focus of this race is on the runners,'' said Renee Dexter, a partner with the book's publisher, Rainmaker Publishing. ``Although it is a relatively young event, we felt it more than earned a spot in this book.''

The race competes with more than 300 others, and Road Runner Akron Marathon founder Steve Marks feels justified in having his race ranked alongside such notables as the Boston and New York marathons.

``It validates what we have been trying to accomplish since the very start: to treat runners in a way that they'll want to come back year after year,'' Marks said.

Awesome. The 2005 marathon will take place on Saturday, October 1. You can register online for the Road Runner Akron Marathon until Wednesday, September 28. If you're not in any shape to run this year's race... start training now for 2006.
