The BJ has been all up in Highland Square the past few days. First the Two Amigos/Lilly's thing and now this: the beloved Starkle Market is closing its doors for good on August first.

Star Market, which struggled to compete with larger stores for years, has seen revenue fall in recent years. Beth Henretta, who with her father, John, owns the Star Market, said business "has been tough for the last five years."

"It's been happening all over to small independent stores," she said. "There's only so many pieces of the pie to give away."[...]

Beth Henretta said the store opened in 1966 with her father among three original owners. At various times, it has been known as a Sparkle and Star market.
