9.26.2005As Seen On TVLast week Akron got some crappy press from Seth Godin. This week we got some good press from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. This makeover show finds a needy family and gives them what they need: a home to meet their challenges in their life. This week the Rodriguez family was in need of some help.Luis Rodriguez served in Iraq as a medic until his transport was blown away. He lost one of his legs and had a hard time getting around his home. The Extreme Makeover crew kicked him and his family out of the home, sent them to Akron and knocked their old down. Normally these families get sent on a vacation to a beach or amusement park, but this time Akron was their destination for one simple reason: Yanke Biotics. Yanke Biotics is doing wonderful things to help people who have lost limbs. About a year-ish ago, they helped a young Iraqi boy who lost both of this legs walk again. This time, they were helping one of our own. Their technology is helping him walk again. Not only is this great for the Master Sgt., but also for the city. People usually think rubber when they think of Akron, but maybe biomed is our next big thing. We have great hospitals in the area and amazing niche facilities like Yanke Biotics. Maybe this is will prove to be the future of our city. (joe :: As Seen On TV) |
