9.02.2005My Petro Woe$2.99 this morning, $3.09 in the afternoon. This is crazy. Plus it's a holiday weekend so gas prices are sure to jump again. It think I'd be saving money if I stopped going to work. There is a ray of light, a very small one, in the dark cloud that is gas prices...A barrel of light crude sank $1.82 to $67.65 on the New York Mercantile Exchange, where gasoline futures also retreated for the first time this week, dropped 23.4 cents to $2.18 per gallon.Keep in mind that $2.18 per gallon is before taxes and before stations mark it up six to ten cents a gallon to make a profit. But still, I'd be happy to see nearly a quarter come off a gallon of gas. In the meantime, Dubya has asked us to try and conserve gasoline over the weekend. President Bush on Thursday asked Americans to be prudent in their consumption of energy, but said supply disruptions caused by Hurricane Katrina were temporary, adding: ``Don't buy gas if you don't need it.''What I wouldn't give for a time machine and a fleet of tanker trucks...
