Is your wallet feeling a little lighter these days? I know mine is. I'm just glad I'm out of college.

While the state share of per-student funding has dropped $1,611 over the last three years, the student share has grown by $1,311, said spokesman Bret Crow of the Ohio Board of Regents, the coordinating body for higher education in the state.

``There's almost a direct relationship between state support and the amount that students pay,'' he said.

Regents Chancellor Rod Chu said Ohio's costs ``have always been up there in the top quarter of the country'' and in the top 10 for the last several years.

The College Board said students at four-year public colleges in Ohio are paying an average of $7,040 this year; students at Ohio's two-year colleges are paying $3,650.

Those numbers are just for public schools. Here's the numbers for Ohio's private schools.

Ohio's private colleges did better when compared with their peers, although such schools' costs still are much higher.

The average tuition cost of $18,910 was well below the national average of $21,235. That put the state in 18th place in the rankings, which weighted tuition prices by the institution size.

That makes it official. I don't want kids... ever.
