11.16.2005TrashyBack in my middle school days, I was part of a group called "Project N.E.E.D." By now I've forgotten what it stands for, but it was some kind of environmental awareness program. This story in today's BJ made me miss middle school for a second... a split second.Principal Timothy Bryan and staffers Shelly Kadilak and Pat Rossi of the Summit-Akron Solid Waste Management Authority were pleased by the results that saw students reduce their cafeteria waste from 88 pounds to 70 pounds. This reminds me of a contest that we had with Project N.E.E.D. We were in Columbus for some convention and there was a contest to see which school would produce the least amount of waste. We packaged everything in reusable containers and had no trash at the end of lunch. We didn't win though; the winner was drawn from a hat. The winning school had produced the most waste of any school there. I was a pissed off twelve-year-old. The BJ :: Kids pitch in to cut trash (joe :: Trashy) |
