Akron Sushi DirectoryAkron Sushi User's GuideAkron is not the first place one thinks of when you start talking about sushi, but we have some great places to tempt you pallet. From Sushi Katsu to the Mustard Seed Market to House of Hunan, there plenty of places to satisfy your craving. And a sushi evening doesn’t have to be expensive. There are a few places that you can eat your fill and still be happy when the bill comes. I’ve found that you can divide sushi into three different price ranges: McSushi, The Enlightened Middle Path, and Someone Else Better Be Paying. Let’s start with the Middle Path. Hibachi Japan is located in the Falls. It’s a Japanese steakhouse and a sushi bar. The sushi here is alright, but it’s also nice because there are other options for the non-sushi enlightened people in your life. House of Hunan also fits the bill for having plenty of other options. The last time I had sushi there it was really good. Their sushi rice really sticks out in my mind as what was the best. Otani’s is another of the Hibachi places around. This one is in the Valley. I’ve only been here once; the food is fine, but you’re really paying for the show. For high end sushi in you can check out Sushi Katsu. If you go there, take out a second mortgage; it’s super expensive. The cost, though, gives you best quality sushi you can get in this area. My boss says it’s the best sushi he’s ever had and he’s been to a lot of sushi joints. When you talk expensive in Akron, Jacob Good will eventually come up. If you go on a normal night, expect to shell out some cash for your sushi and cocktails. You can however get away from here without dropping your bank account by too much. The trick is to go on a Monday night when sushi is half price. When it comes to finding cheap sushi, you can get it in just about any of the supermarkets around town. I don’t always trust it since you don’t always get to see it being made and you don’t know how long it’s been sitting in the case. For that reason, I head over to the Mustard Seed Market fairly regularly. Sushi is made right in front of you just how you like it. It gets tossed in a hand take out container and there you have some top notch cheap sushi. If you want to sit down, eat and still leave with some cash, you either go upstairs to the Mustard Seed Café or go Sakura. Sakura is a little higher in price then Mustard Seed, but they offer many unique rolls and great service. Sakura is my pick for favorite sushi in Akron. It has a great modern atmosphere and boasts some great rolls. If you’re out in Fairlawn, this is my sushi pick.
