Akron Art ReviewsDrumm-ing Up ArtDon Drumm Studios, 437 Crouse St. 330.253.6268 I went to Don Drumm Studios for the first time about 3 months ago. It’s located on a side street just off the Zip Strip. If you don’t get lost you’ll enjoy wandering through the gallery and looking at the handcrafted pewter sculptures, the earthenware vessels, and glass vases. The objects are a pit pricey, but it’s art and there are some great pieces. I fell in love with a set of metal faces that hangs on one of the wall, but I’m a cheap-ass and won’t spend the buck. Outside the main building is a courtyard of Drummy outdoors stuff. Bare in mind, I went during the winter, so anything outdoorsy was far from my mind. Instead, I hurried to the next building. On the other side of the courtyard is a retail store of non-Drumm-made pieces. The Different Drummer, as the building is called, offers unique gifts that you probably won’t be able to find anywhere else in Akron. After I found my trinkets that I planned to purchase, I proceeded to check out where I was asked if I wanted my things gift wrapped for me. Since it was Christmaka, I decided to let them do the work for me. For a free service, I was pleasantly surprised with the work they did. On my way out I got lost because the solid, windowless door was covered with art, much like the walls. Then some really evil lady yelled at me and was like, “the exits right there,” and pointed to a small exit sign that only she could see. I wanted to pee on her. Other then her, my experience at Don Drumm was great. Just make sure when you go in, you make a mental note of where the exit is.
