My Friend, Pink Thing

I figured it's time to share with all of you my favorite piece of Akron Art: Soft Inverted Q, or as my friend Scott and I call it, Pink Thing. It’s by the Swedish artist Claes Oldenburg. Soft Inverted Q is a giant bubble letter of a “Q” that has been inverted so the tail is in the air. It has been painted a rubber-eraser pink to pay tribute to Akron’s rubber producing heritage. It’s a crazy statue, but its fun. The bright pink makes the sculpture stand out against the backdrop of downtown Akron.

Unfortunately, the Akron Art Museum is closed for construction, but it is slated to open in the summer of 2006. Hopefully, my buddy Soft Inverted Q will make his return to the museum for us all to enjoy pretty soon.
