SRO TKO

My experience at Arnie’s SRO (Standing Room Only) is quite unique. I first went there on a Friday night at, like, 10-ish. There was a nice crowd, nothing huge, and I could walk up to the bar without any difficulty. I stood there and waited around, I make I contact with the bartender. Then I continued to wait. And wait. And wait. After nearly 10 minutes, my throat began to swell shut due to dehydration, so I left.

I was convinced to try the place again, and this time I went to happy hour and was actually served. Arnie’s started off a little slow, but the crowd slowly began to gather. They happy hour specials and have a dozen beers on draft, so I was content to hang out and drink. After my first beer, I decided that I needed a martini. I’m a martini snob, so I thought it would be a good test. The martini came and it was filthy/gorgeous. I love a dirty martini and this one was quite swampy.

Arnie’s offers come bar fair, too, but I didn’t see anything that was vegetarian and not deep fried, so I was content to just get cocktailed. Two guys next to me ordered some food, and from my eavesdropping, I could tell that they liked their food. The one guy didn’t like onions in his chili and the other put mayonnaise on his potato chips, so if you agree with either of those food fancies, I’d give their food a go.

So now come the hard part, trying to figure out how to rate this place. My first experience was horrible, but my second experience was super fun. My recommendation for this place would be to go there for happy hour; that way you’ll get service. If you’re going to head over there on a weekend evening, I would go with a designated driver and a good buzz. That way you won’t care if you don’t get served. And All Fired Up is right next door; if you don’t get booze, you can do some painting!
