Getting Cocktailed

For the longest time I couldn’t find Cocktails. I thought it was downtown, but it’s not. Just keep driving along on Main St. and you’ll eventually find it.

Cocktails is three bars in one. First there is the main bar which features a stripper laden happy hour. Check out happy hour until 9 pm for $1.75 domestic bottles and $1.50 well drinks that are super strong. Technically, this is a video bar, but when I was there the jukebox was playing, and I’m really against jukeboxes. I mean, they let people with bad taste in music pick what we all have to hear. Not a good combo.

Next, there is a patio bar which will be open Memorial Day weekend. This will be a nice break from the average bar, plus it’ll be nice to go home and not smell like a bar. And for you afternoon drinkers, you can have a beer and work on you tan all at the same time.

Finally there is the upstairs bar, affectionately known as Daddy’s. This is the leather part of the bar and is only open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Thursday is country night is country night, Friday night is no dress code leather and Saturday is dress code leather. Not my scene, but I’m sure someone might like it.

All in all it’s not a bad bar and it’s a nice change of pace from the typical Akron bar. Their cheap happy hour and close location to downtown makes Cocktails a great after work stop. I give it a strong three and a half blimps. For the first time ever, we’re giving the exact same thing two different ratings. For the strippers, we’re giving the bar 5 blimps and the Flaming Blimp of Doom. ‘Cuz when they’re good they’re good, but when they’re bad, they’re really bad.
