Akron Bar ReviewsIt’s Pat!Kevin O'Bryan's, 1761 South Main Street, 330.724.9782 I went to Kevin O’Bryan’s to do some early St. Paddy’s celebrating by listening to The Five Points Band. Five Points put on a great show, but the crowd didn’t seem to get too into it. It seemed like the patrons had gathered early and proceeded to get loaded rather fast. Their vodka selection was rather crappy, so since I was starting my Irish celebration, I ordered a Guinness. I was surprised to see the bartender actually pour my drink correctly. First he pulled the first half of the pint and let is sit for a minute or two. Then he poured the rest and finished up by drawing a shamrock in the head. I hadn’t seen anyone do that since I was in Ireland. I was impressed. The bar itself seemed to be an odd dichotomy that just didn’t make sense. When I walked in there were Irish saying and pictures on the wall juxtaposed to some hair band roaring from the jukebox. The clientele of the bar ranged from college kids to some creepy random old guy who whistled obnoxiously after every song The Five Points Band played, from preppy to punk. Needless to say I wasn’t impressed. If you’re going to have a theme, run with it. Half-assing it makes it look like you gave up halfway through think through the bar. The bartender’s perfect pour made up for the lack of enthusiasm I felt for the bar. If it wasn’t for him this bar would have received maybe half a blimp, but because I’m a Guinness connoisseur they’re getting 2 and a half blimps. If you’ve never had a perfect pour before, stop by Kevin O’Bryan’s a pint. It is definitely worth the wait for the beer. Perfect Pour:
