Located just East of Wallhaven on West Market is little Coco ’s Coffee. It has survived competition Arabica and now it faces Caribou Coffee across the street. But I think Coco ’s will do fine. They’ve found their niche: good coffee and good chocolates. It doesn’t get much better then this killer combo.

I’ve been trying to come up with a way to judge all coffee shops fairly and I think I’ve done it. For all the coffee houses I review, I’ll always get a plain cup of joe and then get something else for the road.

As I walked in I was hit by the best smell combo ever. The fresh coffee mixing with the chocolates smelled so good. Then I wondered up to the counter, snagged my coffee and took a sip. Their plain coffee, which was a medium blend, was actually really good. All too often small shops end up with crappy plain coffee. They can come up with great specialty drinks, but the plain cup always seems to get left in the dust of its fancy cousins.

As for the shop itself, Coco ’s is just kitschy enough. It’s the kind of place I’d like to snag a chair and read a good book, but that might be a bit hard. It’s a bit small and seating is a premium. But grab some chocolates and hope for a spot.

I got an iced mocha for my to-go drink. I figured since they’re also a chocolate shop I should end up with a killer mocha. Well, it was good, but I think I got my hopes up a little high for my icy treat. I was hoping for melted fine chocolates in my drink and instead I got syrup.

All in all, Coco ’s is definitely worth checking out. Chocolate and coffee rank right up there with oxygen for things that I need to survive and I can get them in one spot. My overall coffee experience was a strong four blimps and the atmosphere gets another four.
