Bring on the Boba-istsBoba, 356 South Main Street, 330.762.6221 I have a fear of new things. Well, more of a prejudice really. I think that things are great, so why should I try something new? Well, I’m crazy. Trying new things keeps up upbeat and teaches us new things. But how can I be upbeat about little balls in my tea? I was about to find out… Boba is located on South Main Street right next to Fuel Lounge. They’re a full coffee bar serving sandwiches, salads, French and Italian sodas, gelato and “Bubble Tea.” I’d been hearing about Bubble Tea for a while, but I’ve been too scared to plunge myself into it. I walked into Boba and was astounded by the space, very modern, very clean, very my style. The board is a little intimidating to order from, with flavors range from Honey Peach to Hibiscus Plum its tough to make a decision. Luckily two Bubble Tea fans were sitting close by and offered me some help. These self-proclaimed Boba-ists led me to order a Hibiscus Plum Bubble Tea, complete with a mound of little tapioca balls in the bottom of my cup. I took my first sip and a ball flew into my mouth. I didn’t know what to do with it. Do I spit, swallow or chew? I opted for a bit of chewing. The little balls reminded me of Gummy bears. The Gumminess mixed with the sweet plum flavor creating something that was quite tasty and refreshing. I asked the two Boba-ists about the little balls. Boba-ist Amy Collett told me, “Tapioca balls are like Pokemon, you gotta catch ‘em all.” I could see her point. Snagging one of those little suckers became a game with a tasty reward. But all good things must come to an end, and my Bubble Tea was gone. Erin Casto, the second of the Boba-ist, told me “When I don’t have Bubble Tea, I’m like a crack addict and I start to shake.” I’m not there yet, but it could happen. I also snagged some peanut butter gelato. There are no words for this dreamy concoction. Now I know I’m supposed to review the coffee here, but I really think gelato is much more important. For those of you who have never experienced gelato, it is the Italian version of ice cream. It’s made with milk not cream and had a much denser feel in your mouth. It’s friggin’ amazing and this one of only a few placing in North East Ohio that I’ve seen it, so be sure to check it out. Also, Boba is bringing in some great talent to the area as well as special events. Be sure to check out our calendar section to scope out the latest events happening at Boba.
