Downtown Akron User's GuideLovely Downtown Akron, so big, so much to write about. If we wrote about everything Downtown had to offer, you’d be sitting in front of your computer for a good hour. So instead, this User’s Guide is going to be a little different. Instead of covering everything, we’re going to talk about some of our favorite parts of the Downtown experience. Here at RubberBuzz, we like to eat and some of our favorite places are located downtown. If you’re in the mood to burn through your paycheck, check out Piatto. If you’re craving Italian but are on more of a budget, try Spaghetti Warehouse for more traditional Italian or Bricco for a more modern spin on Italian classics. If Italian’s not your thing, how about something Asian? House of Hunan offers great Chinese food, but more importantly they have sushi. If you have a big group, try Jillian’s hibachi grill. It’s food and entertainment all in one neat little package. Speaking of food and entertainment, how about grabbing a burger at Menches Brothers and then catching an Akron Aeros game? If you want to grab some coffee, there’s a pair of Susan’s Coffee shops scattered about. Bru’s Brew is also there to serve up Akron some coffee. If you want some booze in your coffee, there are plenty of places to get it. Jillian’s has a nice bar with a large selection as well as their Groove Shack where you can shake it. Next to Jillian’s is Brubaker’s Pub. They have kick ass windows that open in the summer so you can yell at people walking by. The Lime Spider offers great live music almost every night of the week. For you live music buffs, this is a great stop. Posh is, well, not. It’s trying so hard to be a cool place that they’ve totally missed it. By far, our favorite place to get liquored up is Fuel. This upscale martini lounge makes some of the best specialty drinks around which are all on $4 at their happy hour. If you’re looking for entertainment, Downtown Akron has something for everyone. For the little kids, there is the National Inventors Hall of Fame. I know it sounds boring, but there is a giant, hands-on learning center that cans keeps kids busy for hours. The historic Akron Civic Theatre attracts some great concerts. E. J. Thomas also attracts some big names as well as national tours of Broadway productions. Currently, the Akron Art Museum is under construction, but it will reopen in 2006 adding a modern flair to downtown Akron. If you’re looking for a cheap and fun night out, go to an Aeros game. Canal Park is an immaculate stadium and seats are cheap. Plus there are fireworks. All in all, Downtown Akron has something for just about everyone. From great dining, to partying, to going to a ball game, Akron ’s got you covered. But what we’ve described is only the tip of the iceberg.
