Akron Restaurant ReviewsAkron-Style PizzaLuigi's Restaurant, 105 North Main Street, 330.253.2999 Luigi’s is an Akron institution that’s been around for over 55 years. Located in the heart of the Northside District, Luigi’s is centrally located near downtown and convenient to get to by taking Route 59. Though Luigi’s used to be in a rough section of town, a lot of time and money has gone into cleaning the area up and making it hip once more. The have great lunch specials that keep the dining rooms crowded during the week. The Slice & Salad combo is a great lunch for right around four bucks. The important part of the combo is the salad with cheese, and by salad with cheese I mean a bowl of mozzarella with a strip of lettuce and a radish on top. If you’re grabbing a pizza to go and red sauce gives you heart burn, try the Pizza Bianco. It’s a white pizza with onions, garlic, cheeses and, for some reason, an olive in the center of the pie. Luigi’s pizzas are legendary in these parts, so if you’re an out of towner you need to stop by. Don’t expect some great fancy pizza, though. This is just consistently good pizza. On the weekends, Luigi’s draws a great post bar crowd serving up pizza, pasta, sandwiches and deep fried foods until 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Throughout the rest of the week they’re open until 2 a.m. My buddy Eric says they “have a great jukebox.” Let me translate, the jukebox hasn’t been updated since 1976; I hope you like Cat Stevens. Be warned: Luigi’s DOES NOT accept credit cards. Visa-less Nightmare: Perfect Pizza Pie:
