Akron Vegetarian User's GuideAkron is not the most vegetarian friendly area in Ohio. We don’t have any solely vegetarian restaurants, but we do have some great ethnic places that offer amazing food for those of us believe fish are friends, not food. One of Akron’s main districts for shopping and eating is the Fairlawn region. Here you’ll find the Raj Mahal, Sakura and The Mustard Seed Market and Café. The Raj Mahal offers great Indian food. If you go for lunch, get the buffet and try all the various chick pea stews and lentil bean surprises along with their rice and flat bread. If you’re a sushi-holic, try Sakura. They have some unique vegetarian rolls including Tempura Tofu roll and their unique vegetarian roll (asparagus, cucumber, carrot and Japanese pickle). For a real vegetarian/healthy eating experience, go to The Mustard Seed Market and Café. Along with their great market and pre-made meals, The Mustard Seed Café has tasty treats to satisfy your inner vegetarian. What’s that? You’re vegan? Cool. The Mustard Seed has you covered. Even for dessert. Leaving Fairlawn and rolling down West Market towards Downtown, you’ll hit Highland Square. Aladdin's Eatery offers Middle Eastern fair including falaffel, hummos, baba fattoush, lentil soup and, my personal favorite, dawali. Their vegetarian items come as appetizers, on salads, or in sandwiches; no matter what form you choose, the food is great. Two Amigos Mexican Grill is vegetarian conscious. They offer many vegetarian versions of their popular dishes, like black bean and cheese enchiladas with vegetarian Mexican tomato sauce. Everything here is killer; I’ve never had a bad meal here. One of the things I miss most about eating meat is Gyros. I used to love these, but Dodie’s Restaurant has a solution for me: Vegetarian Gyros. Straying away from the main areas, you can always go to Tangier’s. They’re easy to find with a giant onion dome on top of their building. They’re a bit on the expensive side, but if Aladdin’s is closed or you want to impress someone, you can stop by. Closer to the University is Café Momus which has the best homemade veggie burger in town. Other places in town have veggie cuisine too, but I haven’t gotten there yet and I don’t want to post something uninformed. I’ll continue to add to this section as I visit new places. In the meantime, if there is a place we’ve totally missed, let us know at tips@rubberbuzz.com. Akron Vegetarian Directory
